Efforts Tab

Planning is not only performed for regular projects and opportunities but may also be necessary for promotional and overhead projects. The Efforts tab allows the system administrator to determine which types of efforts appear in the Projects list in the main Project Analyzer window.


To access this tab

In Project Analyzer, click File and select System Configuration. On the System Configuration window, click the Efforts tab.


Effort Groups

This section lists the groupings that appear in the Projects list in the main Project Analyzer window.

Field Description
Name

The name of the effort group. Type in the Name column to change the value. By default, the following groups are available:

  • Projects - Active projects.
  • Opportunities - Potential projects that have not yet been won.
  • Marketing - Marketing projects, sometimes called PR or Promotional projects, allow for tracking promotional activities employed by the company.
  • Overhead - Overhead projects track non-billable time for overhead efforts such as external training, PTO, etc.
Order The order in which the effort groups will appear in the main Project Analyzer window. Type the desired value in the Order column for each group.
Active When the Active check-box is selected, the group appears in the main Project Analyzer window. Clear the check-box to hide the group.

Effort Types

Effort types define the kinds of work that are planned in Project Analyzer. This section lists information about the various effort types that appear under each effort group. Multiple effort types can exist for each effort group.

Field Description
Group The Effort Group to which the Effort Type belongs. This is the group under which the effort type will appear in the Projects list. Select the appropriate group from the drop-down list.
Name (Singular) The name of the effort type in singular form. Type in the field to change the value.
Name (Plural) The plural form of the effort type name. Type in the field to change the value.
Source

The source of the effort type. This value is read-only. The following options are available:

  • Vision Projects - The effort type is imported from the accounting system.
  • Analyzer - The effort type is created in Project Analyzer.
Charge Type

The charge type for the effort type. This value is read-only. The following options are available:

  • Regular - Efforts are charged as regular project charges. Typically used for active project effort types.
  • Promotional - Efforts are charged as promotional charges. Typically used for marketing effort types.
  • Overhead - Efforts are charged as overhead charges. Typically used for overhead effort types.
  • No Value - No efforts are charged. Typically used for opportunity effort types.
Active When the Active check-box is selected, projects created under the effort type appear in the appropriate category in the main Project Analyzer window. Clear the check-box to hide the effort type.
